Black Car Service Northern NJ + NYC area?
Main Post:
Anyone have any suggestions for a good black car service? Mostly need it for commutes from North Jersey to/from JFK, LGA, EWR and sometimes to Philly or CT. I've been using Blacklane which is good but sometimes pricey. Wanted to see if anyone else knew any other companies with quality service.
Top Comment: Blacklane is going to be cheaper than most individual car services from my experience. If cost is a major priority, your best bet is finding a driver you like from Blacklane or Uber Black & reaching out to them in future paying directly via Venmo.
has anyone used Blacklane car service? Aspen to DEN airport
Main Post:
hi! I need to get my exec from Aspen to DEN airport and all flights are sold out, so we need to go car service route.
wanted to know if anyone has used Blacklane before and if they are reliable, it's my first time booking with them, as they're most reasonable for pricing. but a little hesitate that it could backfire on me.
but if anyone has a car service they could recommend for Aspen - i am all ears!! thanks all!!

Blacklane tipping?
Main Post:
I know that officially, Blacklane says tips not are not required because they are included in the price. But are we all not tipping with Blacklane?
I've only used them a handful of times, and so far I've tipped ($20 cash, rides have been in the $140-160 range) on airport pickups because they are meeting me at baggage claim (or outside of customs) and taking my luggage out to the car, etc. vs for drop offs where they are just leaving me at the curb. Both of these times I did have cash on me but I don't always.
Top Comment: I think it's refreshing that they are paying an acceptable wage to their drivers and the customer does not have to be inconvenienced with an additional tip. Tipping culture in the US is out of control. Given it's a German company, I'm guessing this is playing into their tips included policy as most of Europe has a much more conservative approach to tipping.
Black lane vs Uber black?
Main Post:
Which is better?
I know Blacklane uses company vehicles but it also would mean dress code.
And is black lane upfront?
Top Comment: Black lane is all reservations. So yes the pricing is upfront. From my experience they pay about the same as Uber, slightly more but not a big difference. But in addition to the slightly higher prices. They have more requirements like wearing a suit, providing small amenities to passengers. I personally just use it the same as Uber. To bring customers back to my private business. Driving for Uber or black lane is unsustainable. The only one making a profit is Uber and black lane.
Personal Drivers in the US
Main Post:
Does anyone have a recommendation for a service or ways to finding a high-quality driver in the US? When we were in the Middle East, we always had access to good car service since it was so prevalent there. Back in the states we have struggled to get anything above Uber Black, or whatever it is called these days. We are looking for a background checked driver who can do things like take us to the airport, drive my wife to and from medical appointments when I am out of town, and give us some relief from driving across this concrete jungle we call Houston. Any recommendations for services, expectations, or even where to find these types of folks would be appreciated.
Edit for more clarity: my main concern is safety, and I would like to find a single driver whom we can build a report with and gain trust. This request came about because my wife goes in several times a year for infusions that leave incapable of driving and a little bit groggy. While it is very possible we could use some typenof Uber Black, it's just not something I want to trust to the algorithm. It would also help as we fly fairly often with 2 little ones, and the car seat situation is a pain. We would be extremely happy to find and pay well a professional driver that could either drive their vehicle or ours and give us a sense of security whilst doing it.
Top Comment: I have a "driver" of sorts. I got the same uber black twice and both times were really good nice amount of chit chat, and very professional He mentioned that he mostly drives a few people and prefers that and now I am a client as well. He has a 2023 Escalade ESV and Now I just contact him directly any time I don't want to drive. I've referred him to friends and he has been nothing but amazing with them too. I have also done this in other cities as well. I have a driver contact in LA that i hit up before i go and he is there to get me. Both are licensed chauffer's with companies and can produce invoices etc.
Private Car Service for Executives
Main Post:
Is there a better way?
Typically the process for me is to find several companies, do some sort of vetting, ask for quotes, wait for quotes and in total hours of my time spread over several days!
Obviously, it is a bit easier if a company I have worked with before is available, but that is almost never the case, especially if I have an executive traveling and in need of a car service in an another location.
Any tips?
Top Comment: When I was supporting a team of 11 executives, what I did was spend an entire week (or so it seemed like a week) calling several companies, getting rates, and explained to them that I needed them to be my go-to company for anytime I needed a car. Of the like 15 companies I called, said "we only offer on a call by call basis" - okay, then you're not what I'm looking for. I think I ended up with like 4 companies that were interested and I chose the best one to fill our needs. It was semi-consistent and decently frequent. They provided a customized plan/contract with rates and minimum notifications and created a fee for us that we were happy to pay if it was last minute (less than 12 hour notice) and it worked out fantastically for 5 years. When they closed (the owner retired), they referred me to another company that they worked with and the new company took over our contract. It took a while to adjust to but it ended up working out pretty great!
Black Summoner LN is unreadable
Main Post:
The translator refuses to qualify who is speaking in any given moment, instead relying on the tone of the speaker to make it clear, which is something that’s significantly more straightforward to understand in Japanese. It breaks the action and increases the cognitive load when reading.
To be fair the original writing isn’t that good to begin with, but with the translation as it is it doesn’t make for a good experience.
I’m so disappointed after reading masterful translations like Bookworm.
Does anyone have an isekai recommendations where the official translation is well done?
Top Comment: Sadly, that particular flaw is pretty common in LN translations, though it's worse in some series than others.
